Donald and Susan Garrett are veteran music educators. Donald has taught kindergarten through adults, as teacher of elementary level instrumental and vocal music with the Cleveland City and Bradley County School Systems (TN), and adjunct instructor at Southern Adventist University and Lee University. Susan is retired from 23 years as choral director at Lake Forest Middle School in Cleveland, TN and 25 years of playing oboe and English horn in the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. She now sings in Choral Arts of Chattanooga. Both Garretts are currently on the faculty of the Kodály Institute at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Garretts have been active in the Kodály movement since the 1970s and have both held local and national offices. They have presented music education workshops at state and national conferences and for teachers in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Virginia and Utah. Both hold the Kodály Certificate from Capital University in Columbus, OH.
As a frequent contributor to the Kodály Envoy, Donald has presented book and CD reviews and has numerous photo credits. He is especially proud to have one of his photographs on the front cover of the Winter 2010 issue.
