SMOOTH SAILING ON LAKE KODALY: Organizational Strategies for Maximum Student Engagement/Lesson Planning Techniques for Yearlong Effectiveness
As Kodály-trained music educators, we are eager to incorporate many demanding musical tasks into our classrooms. However, teachers can easily become frustrated with the ever increasing organizational and management issues we face in our classrooms. Today, we'll talk about ways to make our lives as Kodály teachers easier in the classroom, including:
• Classroom set-up
• Classroom rules, expectations of behavior
• Management ideas for using rhythm and barred instruments
• Planning Strategies: Yearly Plans & Weekly Plans
• Lesson design for maximum engagement
• Miscellaneous Tips and Tricks
• Singing Games, Songs, Dances, FUN
Workshop CEU's = 0.5 Continuing Education Units
Tom Michalek currently teaches K-5 general music in Hastings, Nebraska, after spending 15 years teaching in the Omaha metro area. He teaches Kodály Pedagogy (Level III) at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he received his Kodály Certificate in 2000. A past OAKE Board Member, MKMEA Board Member and PSKOR Chapter President, he currently serves as Advertising Editor of the Kodály Envoy.
